Typically I have mixed feelings about New Year's Eve. I loathe the hype to have the best night ever but this year it feels we're all in the same boat.
Most of us aren't buying sparkling dresses or popping champagne in the club. Let's be honest - I wouldn't be doing that even if we weren't in a pandemic. I much prefer a cozy night at home in my old age.
Rather, we're focused on the New Year ahead, ready for a fresh, clean slate. Appreciating our loved ones and healthy bodies.
On the other hand, I've always enjoyed fresh starts, I enjoy it every spring when the gray turns to green, every September when we head back to school and every January when it's time to set goals and plan for the year ahead.
This year I am focusing on getting it right for me. I have been fortunate enough to have trailblazing female role models in my life, showing me the way. And everything I have learned I have in turn offered the mothers and daughters I have helped.
*To hold onto our truth, even in the face of causing someone else pain. I see the challenge in doing this as a mother especially when my own daughter challenges me with her difficult feelings.
*To hold compassion for ourselves as human beings who do not get it right all of the time. We get it wrong and we may get it wrong often. But it is in the following growth that we get it right.
We get it right for us.
Here's to a year full of compassion and forgiveness for beautiful, imperfect US!
